Gamera Vs. Guiron (1969)

When a spaceship lands on Earth, Akio and his friend Tom decide to investigate. They accidentally activate the ship and are blasted off to an alien planet. Once again, it’s up to Gamera to rescue the children and save the day.

Let’s see, do I make the “Ginsu knife” joke here, or the “lost my contact” joke?

Gamera vs. Guiron is one of my favorites from the Showa era. Yes it is very goofy but in an enjoyable way. Guiron is a decent monster (even with his walking Ginsu knife design) and he even manages to kick the snot out of Gamera for a while. The children are tolerable, we just need to get Akio a pair of pants, is all. I don’t know, it must be a Japanese thing.

Check it out. It’s Gyaos…and he’s been chromed.

In case you are wondering, this is the one where Gamera performs a parallel bar routine in the middle of his fight. It is a truly bizarre moment in Gamera’s very wacky history.
